ÖGAI 2023 Annual Meeting: Presentation award to Karoline Strobl

During the 51st Annual Meeting of the Austrian Society of Allergology and Immunology from 14. - 16. September 2023 in Linz, Karoline Strobl received the presentation prize for her talk.

She is currently a PhD student in the research group of Thomas Bauer at the Center for Cancer Research. Their research focuses on studying the skin side effects of EGFR-inhibiting cancer therapy.

Through her findings, she successfully demonstrated the crucial role of EGFR in protecting the JAK-STAT regulated immune privilege of hair follicle stem cells. This discovery provides valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying permanent scarring hair loss. It also identifies potential therapeutic targets, such as JAK inhibitors, for treating this challenging condition.

The results of this research have been published as a preprint in Bioarchives, available at https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.10.11.561653v1.
