On Thursday, March 9, 2023, the ceremonial awarding of the decree of the "City of Vienna Fund for Innovative Interdisciplinary Cancer Research" took place in the Knights' Hall of the Vienna City Hall.
Annually, the "City of Vienna Fund for Innovative Interdisciplinary Cancer Research" supports research projects that advance biological understanding in the diagnosis and therapy of malignant diseases. At this year’s award ceremony at the Vienna City Hall, also Dana Krauß and Gregor Ortmayr from the Center for Cancer Research were honored with grants.
Dana Krauß is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD student in the research group of Prof. Maria Sibilia. Her research interests focus on understanding cellular metabolic changes in tumor cells. In her project, she will investigate the role of metabolic vulnerabilities in advanced colorectal cancer using current state-of-the-art, so-called tumor-organoid models to elucidate treatments options.
Dr. med. Gregor Ortmayr is PhD student in the research group of Prof. Wolfgang Mikulits. His research focuses on the development of resistance in liver cancer cells and their communication with the tumor microenvironment. His project aims to study treatment resistance in liver cancer patients after systemic treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors and will open up a promising strategy to overcome resistance with support of this fund.
