Thomas Bauer receives a Principal Investigator project from the Austrian Science Fund FWF

Thomas Bauer's research project "Defense Mechanisms during Microbial Hair Follicle Invasion" was approved for funding by the Austrian Science Fund FWF.

In this new project, Thomas Bauer's research group will research and utilize anti-bacterial defense mechanisms at the entrance to the hair follicle. Particularly during targeted cancer therapies, hair follicles can become severely inflamed by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and lead to the discontinuation of cancer treatment. The research project will specifically develop the molecular and cellular mechanisms of action and thus enable new therapeutic approaches to combat bacteria. On the one hand, these are intended to improve targeted cancer therapies, but also to make general hair inflammation, such as acne or scarring alopecia, treatable.
