Research Focus

Molecular epidemiology is an emergent field in cancer research. The challenging goals of molecular epidemiology are to develop biomarkers to identify individuals at higher cancer risk and to focus cancer prevention strategies.

We have generated large biobanks comprising DNA, plasma and clinical databases from more than 18.000 cancer patients and controls. These biobanks, which represent a valuable resource for ongoing and future research projects, focus on colorectal cancer: Colorectal Cancer Study of Austria (CORSA), prostate cancer: Prostate Cancer Study of Austria (PROSA) and lung cancer: Lung Cancer Study of Austria (LUCAS).

PRACTICAL

Prostate Cancer Association Group to Investigate Cancer Associated Alterations in the Genome (PRACTICAL). The aims of the consortium, consisting of 133 different study groups, are to combine data from prostate cancer studies to provide a reliable assessment of the risks associated with these genes, and to validate new findings.
